Lighting Up Leeds

As the nights draw in, it’s getting close to our favourite time of year. There are few people who don’t enjoy festive season, from Halloween and Bonfire Night to Christmas and New Year, but we can’t wait to eat good food and dance our socks off at some parties. And no one can put together a celebration quite like Leeds! At Imageco, we love events, and no other time of year is as filled to the brim with them as festive season. Here in Leeds, you can always tell that we’re reaching that point of the year when Light Night arrives.

Art After Dark

Light Night has taken centre stage in Leeds for the past 17 years, transforming some of the city’s most recognisable spaces into glowing, sparkling art. Artworks are created by local, national, and international artists and every year over two nights in October the streets are brimming with people and the city is aglow.

What’s Going on for 2021

As with most things, last year left the event organisers scrambling for a way in which we could enjoy Light Night without attracting a crowd. They managed to pull off laser shows in the sky across the cities where spectators could use an app to control the lasers themselves, but it wasn’t quite the same. But that just means that this year was better than ever.

There were attractions spread across Leeds at Millenium Square, the Town Hall, HeadrowVictoriaBriggate, the train stationFirst Direct Arena South Bank and Quarry Hill as well as a whole bunch of activities going on outside the center.

So, looking at that list, there’s a LOT going on this year!

Imageco’s Favourite Installations

The Climate Clock

As always, we love all things sustainability so we were giddy when we saw that the climate clock would be featured. The Climate Clock is the most dynamic climate campaign in the world, counting down the critical time window for us to reach zero emissions and tracks our progress on achieving the transition to a safe climate future.

Alien Accents

Who wouldn’t love the glowing alien theme going on across Briggate and Victoria, the colourful creatures appeared to be taking over the buildings and created a really fun touch to the city.

Perfect Projections

The Queens Hotel had an absolutely show stopping projector show across the whole front of the building. A touch of focus on biodiversity came into play here with scenes of whales swimming from building to building and elephants storming through jungle. A great finish to the night!

Festivities

Light Night brings us thoughts of festive fun to come, and we are buzzing that this year we will be able to celebrate with friends again. Leeds Christmas market has been cancelled this year but there are plenty other events you can sink your teeth in to, here’s some of our recommendations:
