Imageco’s Mid-Year Update

by Nathan Swinson-Bullough

Picture of a desk calendar

We’ve had so much going on this year that we don’t think it will all fit in an end of year update… from sustainable certifications to projects for some big-name brands, we’ve absolutely smashed it so far (we did say 2022 was going to be our year). So, if you’re interested in hearing about what we’ve been up to then keep on reading for our mid-year update!

ISO 14001

A highlight of our year so far has to be achieving our ISO 14001 certification. The ISO 14001 sets out the specific criteria for environmental management systems, mapping out the framework companies can follow to set up their own environmental management system.

After working hard on some of our internal operations and the ISO team coming to inspect our operations, we’ve been awarded the ISO 14001 certification. This was a huge moment for us at Imageco and really cemented that the work we have been doing to pave a greener future in print is paying off.

Carbon Neutral Status

As if one sustainability certification wasn’t enough for the first half of the year, we have also managed to become a certified carbon neutral printer by Carbon Quota! An extensive analysis of the emissions created through our day-to-day operations was undertaken by Carbon Quota to realise our operational carbon footprint.

Using this information, we then made commitments as a company to make the necessary changes needed to improve our carbon footprint. These commitments alongside our purchase of certified carbon credits through Carbon Quota’s chosen schemes have allowed us to become certified as a carbon-neutral printer!

A Few Favourite Projects

We couldn’t put together a mid-year update without a special mention of some of our most impressive projects undertaken so far!

Antalis Stand

The Sustainable Street Antalis stand needs a special mention here. A fully recyclable, cardboard engineered stand which really allowed our cardboard engineering team to show off their impressive skills and got so much attention that it got us further work, like our Capital One stand with Pie Factory. Read more about it in our case study.

Dr. Martens Store

We couldn’t have been more pleased when we were asked to be involved in putting together Dr. Marten’s newest test and learn concept store on Carnaby Street, London. Alongside our friends at Syn Retail, we produced the marketing concept and artwork for the sustainable print and POS, using a combination of HP Latex water-based vegan ink and sustainable print media.

ZAAP Sheffield

We absolutely loved decking out ZAAP’s Headingly location in Leeds, so to be asked to help them pull out the stops once again for their new Sheffield location was an absolute treat. One giant train lightbox and some impressive décor later, and we have truly brought the streets of Bangkok to Sheffield with this one.

Cardboard Engineering

On the theme of sustainability achievements throughout 2022, one process that has really elevated our green portfolio this year has been the introduction of cardboard engineering. Our engineer can take flat sheets of cardboard and create 3D, bespoke structures to meet almost any design brief. From simple projects to show-stopping exhibition stands and POS displays

Not to mention, these displays are fully recyclable and really are built entirely out of cardboard, who would ever think?!

Woodland Maintenance YDMT

As a company, we are big fans of the outdoors. So, we jumped at the chance to join Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust on a woodland maintenance day! We are proud to support the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust by planting a tree for every 10m2 sold of our recycled bottle eco canvas. On the day we got to spend some time doing the following:

  • Surveyed young trees
  • Straightened tree guards
  • Did a bit of everyone’s favourite … weeding
  • Marked trees that didn’t survive
  • Checked the boundary for repair

It was a great day and a perfect way to see exactly where our contributions were going!

New Team Members!

Finally, we couldn’t do a business update without a mention of our newest staff members! So that being said, we would like to welcome Coby to the team! Coby is the latest addition to our apprenticeship team. We have a great history at Imageco of putting faith in the younger generations and we hope he has enjoyed his time with us so far! Secondly, we would also like to welcome Nathan to our print finishing team!

Here’s to the rest of 2022!

Believe it or not, we could have crammed so much more into this update, but we don’t want to bore you with (the seemingly endless) list of our achievements so far, so we hope you enjoyed a slightly shorter version!

We can’t wait to see what the rest of 2022 has to offer, so if you have some exciting projects coming up and are looking for a print partner to help put them together, drop us a message!
