Educational Signage: The Ultimate Learning Experience

by Nathan Swinson-Bullough

Covid-19 has impacted students of all ages and hindered their education for 11 months, as educational institutions nationwide adopted an online-only curriculum as UK schools closed for an extended absence in March 2020. As of the 8th of March 2021, the staggered return of normality for older students and those gearing up to take exams has begun. Making up for lost time is the name of the game for these students. Some have less than a year to go before they take exams to secure their place in higher education! Schools are looking for every way they can aid this rapid re-education and educational signage just might be the answer!

Below are some ways that schools can build the ultimate learning experience, getting students back up to speed as quickly as possible, using educational signage.

Window Graphics

Natural light is vitally important in maintaining focus and concentration. Exposure to natural light helps our bodies produce Vitamin D, improves our circadian rhythms and sleep patterns, helps us to focus, enables us to get more done, and even makes us happier. A recent study at Cornell showed workers exposed to natural light experienced an 84% drop in issues such as headaches, eyestrain, and blurred vision.

Introducing as much natural light as possible into classrooms can only benefit a student’s health and wellbeing, as well as improving their mental capacity.

Alas, teachers are in a catch-22, by allowing as much light to enter through windows, it reduces the space by which students can mentally stimulated with key learning material. We can offer educational signage window graphics that maximise the amount of light that can pass through without compromising on educational material. These graphics are developed to be easy to apply and remove, meaning they are designed to be replaced as learning material progresses. No longer will students be reminded about last semesters Battle of Hastings, as they’re trying to learn about WW2!

Wide-Format Print

Maximising space in limited areas is a constant test for schools. Hallways, classrooms, assembly halls, cafeterias, are all opportunities to engage students. What’s more is that phycologists for years have understood that the first viewing of material is most impressionable, but subsequent interactions with the material are less and less effective at capturing attention!

Understanding this is the first step to introducing an effective balance of continual learning material that makes the most impact on a young person’s learning journey. Phycology today list the second most important thing to use to recall information from memory is to leverage visual memory. Posting educational material on wide-format print in communal areas for students when transitioning between classes is the best way to leverage visual memory.

Wide-format print is one ways to reach a large audience, using this medium in a continually changing basis would mean the group of students at a school who see the same wall every day as being exposed to new key educational material which would be naturally imprinted.

Our wide-format print can be printed on high definition, scratch-proof hard, wearing material. Which is perfect for the hustle and bustle of a busy school. The ultra-quick turnround on production in our facility also means schools can have constantly up-to-date educational material, at the drop of a hat.
