THE EDUCATION SECTOR AND VISUAL GRAPHICS

The Education sector is one of our biggest markets here at Imageco, and with one of our newest recruits being an ex early years and primary school teacher, education is very much a part of our core business production. Our print solutions are renowned for providing outstanding, interactive and professional graphics, and this quality production can be particularly helpful for a variety of purposes, particularly within the education sector. Dyslexia is a learning disability that is much more common than most people think, and visual graphics can really help pupils with Dyslexia to learn more easily which is why we provide essential support for schools with a need for a more visual learning experience.

We did some research into Dyslexia and the impact of visual learning and we were surprised by the information we found:

1. 1 in 10 people are dyslexic. However, in America they are suggesting that 1 in 5 people are dyslexic.
2. Dyslexia is the most common learning disability.
3. Many people with dyslexia can be more creative and have a higher level of intelligence.
4. Dyslexia commonly runs in families.
5. 20% of children leave school unable to read properly.
6. Dyslexics only use the right side of the brain to process language, non-dyslexics use three areas on the left side of the brain.
7. Dyslexia is the most common cause of childhood loss of self-confidence.
8. Dyslexics have a strong ability to see concepts with a “big picture” prospective

There are things that can be done to help people with Dyslexia, many are sensitive to the glare of white backgrounds on a page, white board or computer screen. This can make the reading of text much harder. Visual Stress can be reduced by the use of coloured filters: a coloured overlay placed over text or coloured lenses worn in spectacles. The reduction occurs only when the dyslexia friendly colours are selected. Imageco offer a broad range of large format printing options on hundreds of colours and should be considered when creating exhibition and event promotional material. Many dyslexics like to fiddle with something to help with their concentration and tactile products are key. Doodling is an activity that many dyslexics like to do, this is good as doodling stimulates the brain and keeps it active. Some learn better if they are allowed to doodle so this might be worth considering for your stand too.

By far and above anything else though, people with dyslexia can find it tricky to read and write which can be embarrassing in professional situations. To overcome this, we highly recommend projection mapping. Projection-Mapping uses everyday video projectors, but instead of projecting on a flat screen (e.g. to display a PowerPoint), light is mapped onto any surface, turning common objects of any 3D shape into interactive displays. More formally, projection mapping is “the display of an image on a non-flat or non-white surface”.  It can be used for advertising, live concerts, theatre, gaming, computing, decoration and anything else you can think of! More importantly, this could really help within the education sector too. Imagine a stand where there is an accessible, interactive resource that can be used to communicate with a huge variety of additional needs, not just people with learning difficulties.
