BAG THE BEST RECRUITS

by Nathan Swinson-Bullough

It’s the time of year when the recently graduated university and A-level students are looking for their first role and recruitment fairs are popping up all over the country. Here’s how to bag the best recruits.

So how are you going to bring them in?

YOUR STAND

Your stand is going to be the first thing potential recruits see and the first impression of your company, do you want them to think you’re a two pull-up banner operation or a swanky printed backdrop kind of company?

We’ve been smashing out some insane exhibition stands recently and you don’t always have to go big to make a big impression. We’re also focussing a lot on our green alternatives so you might want to consider what materials you’re using if you have a likewise sustainable agenda.

GAMIFY IT!

OK, so you could bring in an old school arcade game and offer up prizes for the best scores or you could even bring in your office ping pong table to really set the scene and bring out the competitive spirit.

But it doesn’t have to be that extreme, you could just run a raffle or even a quiz around your industry to weed out some real superstars that you’re able to contact post-fair.

SWAG

Students love swag. OK, they may not be students anymore but they’re looking for their first job and still love a freebie. Instead of focussing on the bottle openers and spaghetti measures that you’d give away at a Freshers’ Fair, maybe think of things that would actually benefit a young professional like notebooks, USBs and branded water bottles.

LITERATURE

It may seem like the most boring part but always make sure you have some takeaways at the ready to explain who you are and why young jobseekers would be interested in your company.

It can be something as simple as a vibrant postcard or even a business card with a QR code leading to a digital experience.

YOUR TEAM

Make sure you bring along really outgoing team members; nothing says boring company, like boring staff.

Think about bringing your most recent recruits and grads so they can give prospective talent an idea of what life is like at your company.

Brief everyone thoroughly on how you’d like to come across, even think about having a list of potential job titles you’re looking to fill with a brief job description to pique interest.
