Cardboard POS and Retail Displays: How to Maximise Longevity

by Nathan Swinson-Bullough

Your retail displays work hard. Day in, day out, they carry your brand, tell your story, and draw customers in. But like any great performer, they need a little looking after.

Whether you’re running seasonal window graphics, floor-to-ceiling brand activations, or a nationwide rollout of cardboard POS, quality can be the difference between a display that dazzles and one that quietly lets your brand down.

Here’s our guide to keeping your retail displays in peak condition and knowing when it’s time to refresh.

1. Build Longevity into Your Display from the Start

Longevity needs to be considered way before a display hits the shop floor. At Imageco, we engineer every structure with lifespan in mind, from the very first conversation. Using CAD software, our specialist engineers can prototype and test designs digitally before a single sheet of material is cut, identifying potential weak points and perfecting the structure before production even begins.

We can design our cardboard POS displays to interlock without adhesives, which is great for sustainability, allowing components to be easily disassembled, replaced, and refreshed without having to pull the whole unit. Smart engineering at the start saves you time, money, and hassle down the line!

2. When to Refresh Your Cardboard POS and Printed Graphics

Knowing when to refresh is just as important as keeping your POS relevant! You may need to refresh your display if:

  • Your campaign has moved on, but your display hasn’t. Outdated promotions and old seasonal branding erode customer trust faster than you’d think. If the messaging is out of date, it’s time for a refresh.
  • The print is showing its age. Fading, discolouration, or surface damage are clear signals. With our wide-format print technology, you can always rely on outstanding colour consistency with your POS, so when it’s time to replace, you can count on us!
  • Your brand has evolved. Subtle brand shifts often get overlooked in-store. Updated colours, messaging, or tone of voice should be reflected in your physical displays too. A refresh ensures your POS stays aligned with your wider brand story and continues to feel intentional and premium.
  • You’re missing a sustainability opportunity. If your current POS isn’t recyclable, reusable, or designed with low-impact materials, it could be working against your brand values. With sustainability now a trust signal for consumers, a refresh is the perfect chance to switch to more sustainable substrates like Xanita board.

Delivering POS Display Excellence: Hotpoint’s 32-Store Kitchen Rollout

We were approached by One Voice Design to build a special project for Hotpoint. The client wanted to recreate their TV advert kitchen as a live experiential display across 32 UK stores. They planned to launch on the same date, so longevity and consistency were critical in this project.

We engineered the full structure using Xanita board and Foamex, designed to flat pack for straightforward nationwide installation. Every frame was prototyped using CAD to lock together without adhesives, making it easier for end-of-life recycling. All graphics were printed on our swissQprint Nyala 4 flatbed printer to an ultra-sleek, high standard – built to hold colour and structural integrity across high-footfall retail environments.

The result was 32 displays, installed across the country over a single week, all ready for launch day, and built to last the full campaign.

That’s what partnering with Imageco looks like.

From our designers and cardboard engineers to our logistics team, we offer a full-service to support retailers with POS displays.

3. Plan Sustainable Retail Displays from the Start

At Imageco, sustainability is integrated into everything we produce, and that includes thinking about what happens when a display has run its course. Our cardboard POS builds use 100% recyclable materials, so when a campaign ends, displays can be broken down and recycled rather than going to landfill.

Our approach means displays can be stored for your next campaign or recycled at the end of their life. It’s better for the planet, and better for your budget. We can even provide a full Carbon Metrics report for your project, giving you precise data and complete transparency on environmental impact across materials, production, logistics, and installation.

Whether you’re refreshing an existing display or starting from scratch on your next campaign, we’re ready to help. Partner with Imageco today.
