New Year, New Sustainable Outlook

by Nathan Swinson-Bullough

Happy New Year Banner

We hear it every year at the office Christmas party, ‘new year, new me!’. A big promise of people wanting to make a couple tweaks to their lifestyle that, let’s be honest, never really stick. The reality is that less than 8% of people stick to their New Year’s promises of five gym visits a week and a smoothie for breakfast every day. So, we’re here with a suggestion of a resolution you’ll actually want to stick to. And that’s a new sustainability promise!

Follow the leaders

With the recent Glasgow Climate Pact being made at the COP26 summit, now is the perfect time to begin considering how you can look to make greener choices in the new year. We have less than 8 years left to limit our planets global warming to 1.5˚C and because of this, the world is changing, and you should too.

Planning Ahead

The great thing about a new year is that it brings with it new ideas and an annual strategy. Having the ability to weave your sustainability plans into your ongoing annual strategy will make changes flow much smoother. Here’s some ways in which we would advise you can plan for a greener 2022:

POS Plans

Think about your in-store POS and decorative needs for the whole year. Planning so far in advance will allow you to strategize how stands and displays can be used for occasions throughout the year, helping you to drastically reduce your wastage! Use our range of recycled and recyclable materials to create your POS here

Carbon Balancing

Whilst we know that the main goal should ultimately be reducing the carbon outputs from your operations, looking into programs which can help to balance your carbon output can also have a positive effect. Our work with Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust so far has led to us planting 102 trees, which could offset as much as 17 tonnes of carbon over the next 50 years! Consider planting a tree for each sale of a certain good or multiple products.

Sustainable Suppliers

Your supply chain can be either your greatest asset or your worst downfall when it comes to your work to go green. If you’re sourcing from a company with a large carbon footprint, that will feed directly into how eco-friendly your products and services are. So, a deep clean of your supply chain is essential. Be sure to partner with suppliers who take their sustainable credentials as seriously as you do and search for logistics partners who can offer carbon neutral shipping options.

It’s Electrifying!

Transportation accounts for one-fifth of global carbon emissions. But in Europe, electric cars emit, on average, almost three times less carbon than the equivalent diesel or petrol car. So, if you often utilise cars or vans as part of your business, it might be time to consider going electric.

The Start of Something

We at Imageco are always looking to inspire as many companies as possible to move towards a greener future. After all, our 2050 net zero goals are not going to come about unless we collectively work to do better.

We have put a large amount of focus on our own sustainability mission over the past year, working to cut down our impact and do everything we can to make print greener. But we know there is much more to be done and we can’t wait to see what 2022 brings for us. If you’d like to know more about how Imageco is working to reduce our environmental footprint click here
