Overview

If you didn’t already know, we’re proud to be Northern! We particularly love working on local projects in our neck of the woods. When Citu contacted us to collaborate on a Leeds City project, we were thrilled! Citu are a company who are driving forward innovation and sustainability. We were drafted in to design and install the unique hoarding around the perimeters of The Climate Innovation District in Leeds. To be involved with an inventive, ecological company that helps reduce emissions was a win-win venture.

A quick turn-around

In the short space of four weeks we worked closely with the Citu team to; generate brand awareness, help represent their ethos and to help locals understand what the Climate Innovation District will embrace. Spoiler; we think we did a pretty ace job! Representing modern, bold shapes and incorporating a Scandinavian style of the homes, we noted these concepts and began creating the structural composition of the hoarding.

CONFESSIONS OF A SUSTAINABLE DESIGN TEAM

A bold installation was needed. So, we set out our strategy… Focused on giving the hoarding its own identity, we used brand shapes, lifestyle photography, CGI, natural and man-made textures to reflect Citu’s message. Becca, our Senior Designer genius then drafted up quirky, geometric concepts so we could start work on the fabrications. After our meeting with Hollie from Citu, we determined it was smart to insert relief elements to add further interest to the design, so, that’s just what we did. Conceptualising urban living!

WORK IN PROGRESS

The hoarding needed to encompass an innovative ‘green living’ aspect. We decided to include living plants into the framework of the hoarding, representing the way in which Citu plans to transform the landscape of the River Aire into a large expense of open green space. Once all elements were finalised, we began the installation!
