Cardboard Engineering but make it Santa’s Grotto

So, you’ve read the phrase ‘Santa’s grotto’ and we know what you’re thinking… we’re going to bring up the ‘c’ word. But here at Imageco, we think it’s never too early to talk about Christmas! As much as we love the summer sun, we’re more than happy walking along fair-light-clad streets with a hot chocolate in hand, checking out the Christmas window displays. But of course, us being the way that we are, as we’ve started to think of all things Christmas, we’ve also been having a think as to how we can make this year’s Christmas our greenest one yet. And one thing came to mind; Cardboard Engineering … but make it Santa’s grotto.

HO HO HOw much waste!?

The Christmas holidays are… not our best time of year for being green. In fact, some of the waste statistics around Christmas would knock your socks off. For example, around 114,000 tonnes of plastic packaging will be thrown away and not recycled in the UK this Christmas (yikes). And don’t even get us started on the fact that the equivalent of over four million Christmas dinners is thrown away each year. Because who is throwing away all of those delicious mince pies!?

Either way, it’s an undeniable fact that Christmas is a holiday of immense wastefulness. But we think that there are ways in which retail brands can disassociate themselves from the waste of the holidays through smart decisions on products used for POS and displays.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… Cardboard Engineering

We know we’ve banged on a lot about cardboard engineering this year, but that’s because it’s so great! The opportunities are seemingly endless with this innovative new way of building displays. Take the exhibition stand we recently designed and built for Antalis, you can do everything from creating cardboard furniture and POS displays to a 3D bicycle! So, obviously, we know we could craft the best and most sustainable Santa’s Grotto you’ve ever seen.

If you’re not sure on what cardboard engineering is, you can check out our blog Let’s Talk: What is Cardboard Engineering? But to give you a little reminder of exactly why it’s so perfect to build this year’s Christmas displays… We produce a huge number of our cardboard engineered projects using Xanita board, which is a sustainable fibre board developed to not only be ultra-lightweight but also far stronger than other traditional fibre boards. But if you’re after that extra bit of strength, we can also use a fluted card! So, you can rest assured that none of your Christmas decorations will come crashing down.

It’s all about the design

Creating a wonderous winter wonderland is all about design, and when it comes to cardboard engineering, the design is right at the centre. Our engineers work directly with our design team to create builds that are not only structurally sound but also look like they’ve been pulled straight out of a fairy-tale. When it comes to Christmas, we already have a mountain of ideas under our hats, we’re picturing snowy scenes crafted from cardboard and 10-foot-tall Christmas trees lined up alongside them.

Creeping closer

Doesn’t it seem like every year you feel as though you have all the time in the world to organise your Christmas displays and then all of a sudden Halloween is over and you need to get your act together? Cardboard engineering displays take a huge amount of expertise and of course, we want to ensure that your Grottos are absolute perfection, so there’s no time to waste!
